These 39’ single dome tank cars are painted black with red, black and white logo and white and orange lettering. They were built in November 1943, serviced in January 1952 and run on Bettendorf trucks. Kopper’s tank cars were used to haul coal tar, the base material for the five main chemical products: Coal pitch essential for steel and aluminum production; carbon black for rubber vulcanization; creosote for wood treatment; and naphthalene and phthalic anhydride for plastics and polyester.

This 39’ single dome tank car is painted black w/ white Sun Oils logo and white lettering. It was built by American Car & Foundry in Milton, PA; runs on Bettendorf trucks. It was leased to Sun Oil and used the Delaware River & Union Railroad reporting marks until the dissolution of that railroad in the 1930s. Sun Oil got its start on March 27, 1886, when Joseph Newton Pew and Edward O. Emerson, partners in The Peoples Natural Gas Company of Pittsburgh, PA, made a move to diversify their company. The co had acquired pipelines, leases, storage tanks and more to emerge as one of Ohio’s leading suppliers of crude oil.
