Painted orange with the black and white ‘split I’ logo; built July 1953 on Bettendorf trucks. The Illinois Central Railroad was chartered in 1851 to build a railroad from Cairo, IL, to Galena, IL. In 1972 the Illinois Central merged with the parallel Gulf Mobile & Ohio to form Illinois Central Gulf. By 1990 the road was a trimmed and rationalized Chicago-to-Gulf railroad; it was returned to individual shareholders and operational management. The name Illinois Central Railroad was restored.

Painted box car red with large, white “Route of the “400” and “The Streamliners” and white lettering. Built May 1957 by Mt. Vernon Car Manufacturing Company; on Bettendorf trucks. The well known “Ball and Bell” emblem of the C&NW first appeared in 1885. During the 1940s it initiated the famous “400”s, named so because in 1935, C&NW had an advertisement that said: “From Chicago to Twin Cities (Minneapolis, St. Paul), Not more than 400 miles, Not more than 400 Minutes!!!”, make the 400 a well-known C&NW trademark.

Painted red with black roof and ends, ladders and details. Bears the early Circle-Cross herald. Built in Oct. 1954; on Roller Bearing trucks. This car was a one-of-a-kind test bed for a new “home-built” class of cars. The success of this experiment led to the construction of 100 new Bx-76 class cars in 1958-1959. Along with the new cushioning came a brilliant Indian Red paint scheme with an oversized 61” version of the older style “Circle Cross” herald with the black box background, used only on this Bx-77 car.

Painted blue with black ends and roof. Bears an experimental scheme of the light blue on white New York Central logo with the white NY Central script herald. Built in May 1957 by American Car & Foundry, serviced in Sept. 1958; runs on Bettendorf trucks. One of two assigned to Flintkote Company service. A few months later, the NYC began painting their freight cars NYC Century Green. The “DF” on the door signifies this car offers damage-free delivery of customer cargo.

This 50’ standard box car with single Youngstown door is painted gray with maroon ‘Broken E Diamond’ logo and lettering. It was built in 1956 by American Car & Foundry, serviced in 1961 and runs on Roller Bearing trucks. It was originally built as part of DL&W series 12000-12074 in 1956 then renumbered after the 1960 merger of the Erie Railroad & the Detroit, Lackawanna & Western Railroad. It later became part of the Erie Lackawanna series 66250-66276.

This 50’ standard box car with single door is painted black with green sides and runs on black roller bearing trucks. It was originally built by the Despatch Shops at East Rochester, New York in 1941 as part of a 11000 car fleet, this car was serviced in April of 1959 and repainted in this scheme of Century green sides with black ends and roof, and white lettering. The large white, black and red ‘cigar band’ logo decorates the left side.

These 50’ standard box cars with single sliding Youngstown doors are painted red with black ends. They bear the circle/cross Santa Fe logos painted in white with white and yellow slogans, and white lettering. They were built in January 1960, serviced in May 1974, and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Both are of the 500 car series 14500-14999 class Bx-81. They are equipped with SL Loaders, Shock Control underframe and nailable steel floors.

Built in 1957 these 50’ standard box cars with single doors are part of series 10000 - 10349. They were delivered in the highly recognizable red, white and blue “State of Maine Products” paint scheme with Bettendorf trucks. Bangor & Aroostook served northern Maine industry throughout the 20th century.
