These 40’ box cars with plug doors are painted box car red with white and blue Cotton Belt Route “Blue Streak” logos and white lettering. They were built in January 1958 by Pacific Car & Foundry and serviced in December 1977. They run on Roller Bearing trucks. Cars in this series are equipped with Pullman-Standard Compartmentizer gates and fixtures. In recent years Cotton Belt has been essentially a division of the Southern Pacific though its equipment is still lettered “Cotton Belt.”

Painted box car red w/ reefer orange sides and black kickboard and sill. They carry the ‘Early Bird Fast Freight Service” circular emblem with white lettering and run on black Bettendorf trucks. Owned by Merchants Despatch Transportation Corporation and leased by the New York Central System, these 100 cars were originally built in 1944. They were rebuilt to RB class refrigerators in April 1958 and adorned with the “Early Bird Fast Freight” emblem. Seen in Fort Worth, TX in August 1961.

These 40’ standard box cars with plug doors are painted freight car red with black and white Keystone logos and white lettering. They were built in March 1960 and run on Bettendorf trucks. One hundred of these cars were equipped with the Pullman-Standard “Compartmentizer” loading device and marked “PC” in yellow on their doors. Also equipped for application of heaters, the weight of the insulation and the loaders were such that the nominal capacity of these cars was reduced to 95,000lbs.

These 40’ standard box car with plug doors are black with aluminum roof and yellow sides and run on Bettendorf trucks. It was built in 1959, as part of series 7750-7824, by C&O’s Raceland Car Shops in Raceland, KY. Rated at 50 tons, with a 3431 Cu. Ft. capacity, these cars were equipped with Pullman-Standard compartmentizers and were insulated.

In 1985 Micro-Trains released its first Z scale freight car. In celebration of 30 years of making Z scale rolling stock, Micro-Trains has produced this 40’ Standard Box Car which proudly displays the MTL and Magne-Matic® logos and the ‘Route of the Magne-Matics’ slogan. To-date, Micro-Trains has offered 34 Z scale body styles with over 130 road names and hundreds of paint schemes. After 30 years, the ‘Route of the Magne-Matics’ is still going strong!
