In the late 1930s Santa Fe’s passenger cars began to modernize with the introduction of the fluted-side Budd Passenger cars. Faced with integrating their smooth-side Pullman Standard cars into the consist, the company decided to repaint the cars silver with faux fluting details using black faded stripes to match the Budd cars. This was known as Shadow-Striping and remained on the cars well into the 1950s.

Linde is the industrial gas division of Union Carbide Company. They used exclusively designed 40’ box cars with an inner tank to transport a variety of their liquefied or cryogenic gases across the country. The inner tank was permanently installed and its design allowed the company to control the temperature of the gases for up to 30 days. Our 4-Pack features four of Linde’s many different paint schemes and each car will have a resin tank inside.

Maintaining miles and miles of track is a never ending task for railroads. Mechanical tie loaders ride atop gondolas, picking up discarded ties next to the repaired sections of track. Tie loaders are equipped with clamping and lifting hydraulics that allow the tie loader to move from one car to the next as the MOW train moves forward. Our tie loader model is based on the prototype and is a 3D Printed kit. All three gondolas in each set will come with railroad tie loads.
