These SD40-2 powered locomotives are painted blue with white logos and white lettering. They were built in 1977 by the Electro-motive Division of General Motors. These SD40-2 locos served many years on the rails for Conrail. The EMD SD40-2 is a 3,000 horsepower (2,240 kW) model of C-C diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division between January 1972 and February 1986; 3,957 examples were built, and every class 1 railroad in North America has operated this locomotive. The SD40-2 is one of the best-selling diesel locomotive models of all time.

These Soo Line SD40-2 locomotives are painted with two different logos from two different times. #6609 was built in 1980 by EMD as part of order #797328. # 784 was built earlier in 1974as part of order #73695. It was delivered with a parallelogram logo with the road number located at the rear of the body. Additional road numbers were soon added to the cabs for easier identification.

These locos were built in 1980 by Electro Motive Division as part of order #C429 for the British Columbia Railway. They are painted a combination of dark and light green with a white delineating stripe and yellow rails. Featured on the cab is the dogwood logo along with ‘British Columbia Railway’ lettering in white. The SD40-2 is one of the best-selling diesel locomotive models of all time.
