The Chicago and Northwestern was often operating in severe cold throughout our Western Plains States.  A storied history of delivering goods to brave pioneer towns.  These models should make our Northwestern and Canadian Z hobbyists very happy, indeed!  The Chicago and North Western Transportation Company (CNW) was a Class 1 Railroad operating over 12,000 miles of track in seven states before retrenchment in the late 1970's.  Trackage in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming was divided between Union Pacific RR and CPRail (operated by Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern RR) in 1995. The Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway (CMO) or Omaha Road became part of the CNW Railway in 1882.  The C&NW leased the Omaha Road in 1957 and merged the company into itself in 1972.

The Great Northern Railway (GN), running from Saint Paul, Minnesota to Seattle, Washington, more than 1,700 miles, was the creation of the 19th century railroad tycoon James J. Hill and was developed from the St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. The Great Northern's route was the northernmost transcontinental railroad route in the United States and was north of the Northern Pacific Railway route. The Great Northern was a privately funded transcontinental railroad, though some of its predecessor roads received land grants.  In 1970 the Great Northern, together with the Northern Pacific, the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway merged to form the Burlington Northern Railroad, today part of the     BNSF Railway.

After being involved with Z Scale Railroading for a decade, in 1998, William Dean Wright, "Uncle Will," decided to become a Distributor for this enticing hobby.  Thus, Full Throttle was born.  Eventually, affiliations with PennZee, Freudenreich, and Father Nature led to many promotional, photographic and marketing pursuits.  Along the way it became necessary to create our own trucks and couplers, and "Will's Metal Wheels" were popularized! With friendships of Hay Bros. Garage and NZT, new products and body-styles are on the work bench, today.  Full Throttle is very grateful for all the support given by you, our patrons, and offers this nifty 15-Year "Anniversary" Twin-Hopper 4-pk. in celebration!  Thanks! Faithfully, Will

During the 30's and 40's, the PRSL had a formidable fleet of Baldwin Steamers at it's disposal, and later in it's diesel hayday, a bevy of doodlebugs and RDCs for passenger traffic plus a swell collection of matching EMD GP-38s for both passenger and freight work. Passenger cars were usually supplied by the PRR, and could be seen on schedule heading, "down the shore!" A Steam to Diesel Era hopper fleet, for PENNSYLVANIA~READING SEASHORE LINES. Responsible, year around, for hauling goods through Southern New Jersey to a rural population and during the summer, to throngs of beach-going communities, the PRSL, with it's up-to-date equipment, and dependable trackage, was reliable and an enjoyable ride for many.

The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) is one of the oldest RRs in the USA, created because the city of Baltimore, MD wanted to compete with the Erie Canal! It's dates of operation were from 1828-1987 and it served New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Chicago, St. Louis, MO, and points in between. It's motto, "Linking 13 Great States with the Nation" was appropriate for a railroad that first carried Eastern goods and passengers into our West. Many railroading innovations were accomplished by the B&O including managerial methods which became standard practice in modern business. The B&O absorbed innumerable Lines into it's fold during the 20th Century but in 1963 the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway took financial control of the B&O and it's interests in the Western Maryland Railway. All operating separately, the three railroads were brought together as the Chessie System in 1973. The WM and B&O merged in 1976. The Seaboard Coast Line (Seaboard System), which included the L&N, Clinchfield, and Georgia railroads, combined with the Chessie System in 1980 to form the CSX Corporation which officially became CSX Transportation in 1986. Here's two common B&O hoppers that carried Appalachian coal throughout the middle American states.

One of the first Railroads constructed in the USA, The Reading (RDG) served southeast PA, DE, MD, and NJ. Primarily hauling anthracite coal from PA's "Coal Region", it remained one of our most prosperous National corporations, until forced into bankruptcy in the 1970's due to reduced coal use for home heating and the rise of trucking competition. Reading Railroad was merged into Conrail in 1976. You'll note the "SPEED" lettering, but the car doesn't wear the later red and black "diamond" logo.  This car appeared everywhere in the Central Eastern USA, for many, many years!  Hauling PA's Anthracite Coal was her main task and this home heating source kept her very busy, indeed.

You're all familiar with the Glen Alden Coal Company's method of staining their anthracite BLUE as it left the chutes of their Huber Breaker.  This was a remarkably successful marketing ploy, advertised on radio and in newspapers during the 1930's and 40's for their home-heating fuel.  Some years ago, Full Throttle produced a 'blue coal' hopper using the actual logos of the product.  Well, sales of 'blue coal' were so prosperous that other Coal Companies just had to get in on this "colored coal" craze.  For one, the Reading Coal Company (Phila. & Reading Coal & Iron Co.), not to be confused with the Reading Railroad, in order to capitalize on the "colored coal" fad, started to stain their anthracite, RED!  Yes, and their trademark stated, "When It's RED, It's READING!"  This merchandising strategy worked very well for the Southeastern Pennsylvania area, Reading/Allentown, Philadelphia, Central New Jersey and Delaware/Maryland, a local ready-made client base for home heating fuel, easily served by railroad!  Full Throttle has now brought a "red coal" hopper to the Z Scale hobby!  The fantastic loads were created by Hay Brothers!

The Philadelphia and Reading Coal & Iron Co., in an effort to compete with the Glen Alden Coal Company's very successful 'blue coal' started to spray anthracite coal, RED! Not to be confused with the Reading Railroad, the P&RC&I Co. used the slogan, "When it's RED it's Reading!" During the 1930's and 40's this marketing ploy promoted household heating coal effectively and before the competition was over, there appeared a "silver," "gold," and even "pink" coal! Here's a fantasy car, produced by Full Throttle, exclusively for Zscale Monster Trains, marked with reporting numbers of Railroads from the region and loads created by Hay Brothers.
