Many of my customers have been asking for undecorated Cylindrical Hoppers.  Apparently there are some painters and bashers who would like to try their hand at customizing some of these nifty covered cars.  Well, I've got some UNDECORATED 2-pks. here and I want them to be available only through Full Throttle Dealers!  They will come in the usual plastic box with liners and foam inserts, assembled, with the catwalks glued to the roofs and the new heavier weights glued inside of the body.  There will be a simple set of instructions right in the box which describes how to take the cars apart into their four basic sections.  They will not come with the Roller Bearing truck/couplers.

The Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (DRGW), generally referred to as the Rio Grande, was a major origin of coal and mineral traffic, with a motto of "Through the Rockies, not around them." The Rio Grande was the epitome of mountain railroading, operating the highest mainline rail line in the USA and ran famed routes through the Moffat Tunnel and the Royal Gorge. In 1988, Rio Grande Industries, the company that controlled the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad purchased the Southern Pacific Railroad. The combined company took the Southern Pacific (SP) name due to its name recognition among shippers. By the early 1990s, the D&RGW became largely dependent on hauling the high-quality coal produced in the mine fields of Colorado and Utah. In 1996 the D&RGW was sold and merged into the Union Pacific Railroad.

The Southern Pacific Railroad (SP) was founded in 1865, later acquiring the Central Pacific RR by lease. The SP, a major USA Railroad by 1900, incorporated many small Southern, Western and even Mexican Lines. By 1929 the SP/T&NO was huge, not including it's Cotton Belt Line, whose purchase of the Golden State Route in 1980 doubled it's size! In 1988 the SP was absorbed by Denver and Rio Grande but kept it's name, serving AZ, AR, CA, CO, IL, KS, LA, MO, NV, NM, OK, OR, TN,TX and UT! In 1996 the SP became part of the Union Pacific Railroad. Full Throttle presents a pair of ACF Cylindrical Covered Hoppers, leased by the SP.

This month's offering is yet another paying homage to the old TYCO "brown box" line of freight cars, which brought FUN into model railroading!
One of FT 's most popular and "trade-able" Cylindricals, ever! We first designed and produced the "Old Dutch" Cylindrical nearly eight years ago, in homage to TYCO's "Brown Box" series of fun Rail Cars. Since then I've had many requests for a re-run from those that missed out, and I thought that now, July '21 would be appropriate. Hope you think so, too! Check out this nifty 2-pk.! All new printing and reporting numbers!

But I see that they have acquired both AGWAY and GOLD KIST, and now serve the entire Eastern Coastal States of the USA from Maine down through to Florida with Farming Products and customized seeds!" -Will

This month's offering is yet another paying homage to the old TYCO "brown box" line of freight cars, which brought FUN into model railroading!
Due to many early mergers of RR Co.s, ACF Industries is represented in most States of the Northern US, east of the Mississippi River. They are responsible for many innovative Freight and Passenger cars used in modern railroading. After WWII, USA Railroads were increasingly called upon to haul new and unique “modern” products over long distances. In response, American Car and Foundry (ACF) designed a tank-type covered hopper car. The cylindrical shape allowed a better weight/volume ratio, plus the elimination of interior ledges, combined with hatches and outlets placed along a center-line, led to ACF's trademark "Center Flow" hoppers! Through the 1960's the “cylindricals” became omnipresent on our Nation’s RR tracks, with many styles of hatches and outlets devised according to needs. Because the cars were compartmented, various loads could be carried in a single unit and some construction with aluminum reduced weight further. Here was a "Freight Car for the Future," ready to transport sugar, cement, sand, salt, fertilizers, many types of grains, coke, starch, feeds, chemicals and plastics!

Because of it's Mountain Goat Herald and it's myriad colorful freight cars, the GREAT NORTHERN is one of our hobby's favorite Rail Lines! This month's FT offering is an Aluminum GN Cylindrical hopper. Fleets of these were seen in the Great Plains of USA and CANADA. The lighter bodies were useful in keeping costs down on International and Interstate shipping of the grains grown in the West. Both GN and BN invested heavily in these bright new cars!

Great Northern Railway was a colorful transcontinental Rail Line (1857-1970) which ran from Chicago northward along the USA/Canada border, serving both nations, and to Washington, Oregon and California on our West Coast. It's famous herald was of a mountain goat within a circle. It eventually merged with NP, CB&Q, and SP&S to form the Burlington Northern Railroad until 1996 when the BN merged with ATSF to become BNSF. After WWII, USA Railroads were increasingly called upon to haul new and unique "modern" products over long distances. In response, American Car and Foundry (ACF) designed a tank-type "Center Flow" covered hopper car. Here was a "Freight Car for the Future," ready to transport sugar, cement, sand, salt, fertilizers, many types of grains, coke, starch, feeds, chemicals and plastics! Railroads of our Northwest Plains experimented with Aluminum bodies to cut down on costs of interstate grain shipping.

It purchased the ATSF in 1996 to become BNSF,Burlington Northern Santa Fe, one of the four major railroads in the USA! BN's updates included examples of Aluminum ACF "Center-Flow" Cylindrical Hoppers.

Hooker Chemical Company, was an American concern that produced chlor-alkali products from 1903 to 1968. In 1922, Hooker bought the S.Wander & Sonscompany for the retail sales of lye and chlorinated lime. Hooker Chemical is best known for the chemical waste site "Love Canal," which it sold in 1953, and led to a lengthy lawsuit several decades later. The company located in Niagara Falls, NY noting the low cost electricity from the Niagara Falls power project (1895), the abundance of salt from nearby mines, and availability of water from the Niagara River. Hooker built a new chlor-alkali plant in Tacoma, WA in 1929. Additional products, including sodium sulfide, sodium sulfhydrate, sodium tetrasulfide, and aluminum chloride were produced there. Hooker Chemical Company was purchased by Occidental Petroleum Corporation in 1968.

This month's offering is yet another paying homage to the old TYCO "brown box" line of freight cars, which brought FUN into model railroading!
In the 1930's the D. L. Clark Co. confectionery, famous for their very popular "CLARK BAR," introduced the off-beat candy bar named "ZAGNUT." Composed of a cocoa imbued peanut brittle center, covered with toasted coconut, it gave the mouth a "fuzzy" sensation when chewed! Unique in having no melt-able chocolate involved, the candy bar, now produced by the Hershey Co., has had a resurgence with U.S. troops in arid climates like Iraq and Afghanistan! At home it has a very niche market. Continuing our "Candy" Series, in homage to the old TYCO "Brown Box" models, Full Throttle presents a 1960's era Cylindrical hopper honoring this venerable sweet treat!

What's a "Big John?" SOUTHERN had a fleet of very large multi-colored, covered grainers to which they named "Big Johns!" ACF 51', three-compartment cylindricals are apropos to represent a large grainer on smaller home-style layouts! In each set, one model is an Aluminum hopper painted with red lettering and the other, a Steel car pained black with bright orange lettering. A great addition to the FT collection of unusual freight cars for the Z Scale hobbyist! A "must" for SOUTHERN RAILWAY runners and those who run southern USA RR Lines.
The Southern Railway (SOU) was the product of 150 predecessor lines that were combined and reorganized in the 1830s, formally becoming the Southern Railway in 1894. From dieselization and shop/yard modernization, to computers and the development of special cars, the unit coal train and Radio Controlled Mid-Train Helper Locomotives, Southern was often on the cutting edge of change, earning the catch phrase, "Southern Gives a Green Light to Innovation." Southern and it's subsidiaries covered and serviced nearly the entire southern portion of the USA with freight and passenger traffic! In response to the creation of CSX in 1980, the Southern Railway merged with Norfolk and Western Railway to form the Norfolk Southern Railway in 1982, further consolidating railroads in the eastern half of our Nation.
