This summer will mark the beginning of our newest series featuring 7 prototypical Baby Ruth® freight cars from the 1920’s and early 30’s. This series will consist of six colorful billboard reefers and one tank car, all displaying elaborate ads for Baby Ruth® which was owned then by Curtiss Candy Company. Baby Ruth® was acquired by Nabisco® in 1981 and Nabisco® sold the Curtiss brands to Nestlé® in 1990.

These 40’ Wood-Sheathed Reefers are painted brown with yellow sides and run on Bettendorf trucks. This colorful billboard scheme painted by Curtiss Candy Company promoted their Baby Ruth Gum and Baby Ruth Candy brands. Baby Ruth was acquired by Nabisco® in 1981 and then Nabisco® sold their Curtiss brands to Nestlé® in 1990.

This colorful scheme had the typical Baby Ruth® logo on the right with the Curtiss president’s signature. Several Curtiss candies are advertised on this car, including Butterfinger.
