These 33’ twin bay hoppers with rib sides are freight car red with white lettering and run on Bettendorf trucks. Belonging to Pennsylvania’s GLA-class of twin-bay hoppers, these 50-ton cars were used exclusively for coal. Built in 1907, and rebuilt several times after, they continued in service through the 1950s before being scrapped. These cars featured a motivational wartime message, “Coal Goes to War,” indicating the importance of that natural resource to national security.

These 33’ twin bay hoppers with rib sides are brown with white lettering and run on Bettendorf trucks. These hoppers were used primarily for ballast loading. Southern Pacific was a Class 1 railroad from 1865 till 1996, when it was absorbed by Union Pacific after falling on hard times financially in the 1970s and 1980s.

Painted Freight Car Red with white Circle Keystone logos and white lettering; built in March 1942 and run on Bettendorf trucks. Part of class H-31, these hoppers were members of series 220300-220841 built by the Pennsylvania Railroad at the Altoona Shops. Class H-31 hoppers had a capacity of 1859 cuft, with a load limit of 129,700. PRR kept the circle keystone logo until the mid-1950s when it decided in favor of the shadow keystone without the circle.

These rib side twin bay open hoppers are painted SP Brown with white logo and lettering. They were built in October 1956 by American Car & Foundry and run on Bettendorf trucks. Built from an order of 275 cars on Lot #01-4705, these hoppers were built as SP series 460557-460681 and as SP subsidiary Texas & New Orleans as T&NO series 41150-41299. This series of hoppers is designated AAR class HK and is used for ballast service.

During 1945, Havelock built its first all steel hoppers. These were designated as HT-5B and numbered into the larger #188000-189999 series. In March of 1959, 250 of these hoppers were serviced and repainted into CB&Q’s new “Chinese Red” paint. They were numbered into the smaller series #189000-189649 and remained in their Red paint scheme into the mid-eighties. This paint scheme had its debut in 1958.

These 33’ twin-bay hopper with rib sides are orange with bold white and black lettering and run on Bettendorf trucks. Built in the early 1920s, the Waddell Coal Mining Company used these cars to ship coal to loading docks along the line where the coal was distributed to local retailers. In 1951, Waddell leased a number of these O&W hoppers giving a few of them the “billboard hopper” paint scheme.

This 33’ twin bay hopper with rib sides is blue with black and white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. This 510700 – 510999 series Rock Island two-bay hopper was freshly re-painted in the “new image” blue paint scheme in 1977. With a 2051 cubic foot capacity, these cars were used in general service for heavy aggregate commodities.

These 33’ twin bay hoppers with rib sides are black with white lettering and run on Bettendorf trucks.Built in 1952 for Baltimore & Ohio as part of series 136800-137999 it had a 2,167 cubic foot capacity. In 1967, it was rebuilt by the Raceland Car Shops and transferred to C&O service, allowing a capacity increase to 60-tons.
