These 50’ standard box cars with plug doors are painted dark blue with aluminum roofs and yellow logos and lettering. They were built in March 1967 and run on Roller Bearing trucks. These Class B 74-A cars were assembled for B&O at Dubois, PA, in from Thrall kits. The 38” Capitol Dome logos have been stenciled to the right side of the cars.

These 50’ standard box cars with plug doors are painted brown with white “wet noodle” logos and lettering. They were built in January 1987, serviced in March 2003 and run on Roller Bearing trucks. The cars display the English “Canadian National” on the right side of the car, and French “Canadien National” on the left side. A note under the tack board indicates this car was used for paper service.

Never one for the conventional, our daring holiday mouse has converted an old tennis shoe into a slope shredder. These 50’ standard box cars with plug doors are painted brown with white ‘Circle/Cross’ logos and ‘Santa Fe lettering.’ Sides and ends are also in white. They were built in June 1956 by American Car & Foundry, serviced in August 1980, and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. These Class BX-186 cars were originally class RR-58 built in 1956 by AC&F; later they rebuilt by ATSF and renumbered into series 55273-55367.

These 50’ box cars with plug doors are painted gold with black ends. They bear black “Action Road” speed lettering logos, plack lettering and green ‘No Damage’ stripes. They were built in April 1955 by General American Transportation Company, serviced in October 1968 and run on Roller Bearing trucks. They belong to series 50900-50999 and run the South Western District.

Painted dark green with yellow stripes, white ‘NP, black red and white herald, and white slogans and dimensional data. Built Oct 1965 on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Boasting the ‘Damage Free’ logo on the doors to protect loads and limit load-shifting, as well as advertising its cushion underframe. Some have been seen through the 80s with chopped ladders and roofwalks removed and this very paint scheme, after having been shopped. The only exception being the galvanized roof.

This 50’ standard box car with plug door is painted brown with white logo, yellow ‘Insulated’ and ‘DF’ on the door, and white lettering. The Keystone logo is white and black. It was built in December 1959 and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. This car was part of a 300-car series generally used for handling food products. The insulation, provision for application of heaters and the use of Evans DF loaders were used to protect product from damage during shipment due to load shift and temperature change.

Painted yellow with alum roof and ends. Bears a red, white and blue UP shield, multi-colored ‘automated rail way’ logo; lettered in black. Built Aug 1963 at UP’s Omaha Shops; on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. The UP “automated rail way” map design was approved in 1962: It projected an image of modern safety and efficiency resulting from the UP’s newly installed system of automated operational controls. The “Automated” map was applied only to smooth side boxcars and autocars to highlight their cushion load underframes.

This 50’ standard box car with plug door was built in 1964 as part of series 360982-361160. It is painted brown with white lettering and Conrail logo. The creation of Conrail is the result of the reorganization of the bankrupt Penn Central by the USRA. Beginning operation on April 1, 1976, it took over the railroad operations of 6 bankrupt eastern railroads: (1) Central of New Jersey, (2) Erie Lackawanna, (3) Lehigh Valley, (4) Reading, (5) Penn Central, and (6) Lehigh & Hudson River.

These 50’ standard box cars with plug doors are mineral brown with orange doors and white circle cross herald, and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1955, as part of series 6000-6299, ATSF used these cars for temperature-critical commodities across the West until at least the 1980s.
