ALL NEW TOOLING & LOADS
I could wait no longer to reintroduce the NEW WOODCHIP HOPPER!  It's been almost two years since FT released it's first foray of these nifty cars.  As you will remember, there were four separate manufacturers involved with those premier releases.  Through no fault of it's own, one of those contributors was no longer able to supply parts and, in fact, was forced out of the small scale train hobby.  This situation stopped production of the woodchip cars for the rest of us.  I implored BOWSER Mfg. to take the project to the next step, and they did!  Though it took time, a new mold was created in order to continue on with the woodchip series.  You will see several improvements over those first models.  Namely, the car is  composed completely of plastic shot and not an amalgam of plastic and resin.  Hay Brothers has designed a better woodchip load.  This time it is extra thick, providing a better center of gravity, and is free-sitting, thus removable.  We are very happy with the results and proud to offer this brand new model into the Z Scale Hobby!  I think you'll like it, too!  Faithfully, Will

Once considered trash, WOODCHIPS morphed into a valuable commodity during the 20th century. Their use as pulp in paper production, bedding and fill on farm and ranch, mulches for gardening, playground surfacing, forest fire prevention, and not least, as an alternative fuel source, propelled them into being a profitable industry! And, of course, the Railroads would be responsible for transporting and distributing this modern bounty. What vehicle better than Hopper Cars to accomplish this? The lighter weight to volume of woodchips, compared to coal or gravel loads, allowed for larger capacity cars, and to achieve this, all manner of hopper top-extensions were conceived. From wood planking and braced plyboards to welded steel sheeting and even scrap parts from old or wrecked cars were utilized to increase capacities. Full Throttle and Hay Brothers present extended-top hoppers based on prototypes from the Steam-to-Diesel Era of railroading.

The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) or Santa Fe was one of the largest railroads in the USA, serving the States of AZ, CA, CO, IL, IA, KS, LA, MO, NE, NM, OK, and TX. The Santa Fe quickly bought into these large haulers so great amounts of coal could be shipped over long distances. An innovator in Modal Transportation, ATSF operated from 1859 until 1996 when it merged with the Burlington Northern Railroad to form Burlington Northern and Santa Fe, the BNSF Railway.

By 1884 the MAINE CENTRAL Railroad Company (MEC) was the longest railroad in New England. Serving parts of VT and NH, most of it's track was in central and southern Maine. The USRA assumed control in 1917, and it remained independent until 1981, when it became part of what is now the Pan Am Railways network. Known as the Pine Tree Route, forest and lumber products were a large source for freight.

Uncle Will here!   After much preparation over the last year, FT is ready to reveal a new body style.  It's an  OPEN 33' RIB 2-BAY WOODCHIP HOPPER  from the Steam-to-Diesel Era of Railroading!  There is much hand work involved in bringing you these models and many shipping charges along the way.  Four of us Z Scale Crafters were responsible for accomplishing this offering, Hay Bros. Garage, NZT, Bowser Mfg., and Full Throttle each contributed development on a certain portion of the whole.  We are very proud of the results!  FT plans on releasing a new livery every several months throughout 2014.  We're concentrating on Rail Lines with an abundance of trackage and many spurs which would have taken trains into the North American hinterlands.  B&O, a great freight hauler which would eventually become part of the huge CHESSIE, and then CSX Complex.  The WOODCHIP HOPPERS are based on prototypes created by the existing Railroads around the Mid-Twentieth Century.
Need specific load styles to suit your layout?     Hay Brothers produces many different and very realistic styles available separately.
