Several predecessors, dating back to the 1820's, led finally to the Southern Railway by 1894. In the 1980's it merged with Norfolk and Western R.R. to become Norfolk Southern. A venerable Rail Line oft wearing a green color scheme on both steam and diesel engine alike, the SR ran freight and passenger trains from Richmond VA, to Greenville, MS and all points between, living up to it's motto, "We Serve the South!".
